{"id":3191,"date":"2019-06-03T01:03:54","date_gmt":"2019-06-03T01:03:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.goldsgym.com\/blog\/best-friends-fitness\/"},"modified":"2025-06-05T17:21:32","modified_gmt":"2025-06-05T17:21:32","slug":"best-friends-fitness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.goldsgym.com\/blog\/best-friends-fitness\/","title":{"rendered":"Best Friends in Fitness"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>They live 1,000 miles apart, but that doesn\u2019t stop Tory Hale in Dallas and Taylor Witty in Greensboro, North Carolina, from keeping each other on track to reach their fitness goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Taylor, the national development manager for Gold\u2019s Gym fitness programs, met Tory, Gold\u2019s Gym fitness expert, a few years ago while becoming certified to teach <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goldsgym.com\/golds-studio\/\"><b>GOLD\u2019S<\/b> FIT<sup>\u00ae<\/sup><\/a>. It didn\u2019t take long for the pair to know that they would be close \u2014 in fact, their friendship started with their shared competitive spirit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTory led the certifications and shared his workouts and his numbers,\u201d Witty says. \u201cI looked at those and made my goal to beat him in everything by one rep.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Having a friend to workout with can give you the push you need and help hold you accountable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s how Tory and Taylor succeed as workout buddies with the help of technology and a love of competition \u2013 and their advice for starting a best friends workout plan of your own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"h2\">Share your goals and be consistent with communication<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tell each other what you are working toward so you know how to keep each other motivated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTory and I tend to have very similar goals,\u201d Witty says. \u201cEvery once in a while, we text something as simple as, \u2018Hey, man, get it together.\u2019 Sometimes the message comes in the middle of a workout. Other times it\u2019s when I\u2019m frustrated about something else. I get that out of the blue, and it\u2019s like somehow he knew. It reminds you that someone else cares that you get better.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"h2\">Use technology to stay accountable and on track<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If eating better is your goal, send each other photos of your meals. If building muscle in a certain area is your goal, share photos of your progress after doing targeted workouts. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.goldsgym.com\/blog\/category\/lifestyle\/\">See fitness section for targeted workout posts.<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Create a best friends workout document or social media group and invite your pals to post their hard work for everyone to see.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSharing the experience with other people is what creates a bond,\u201d Hale says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf you\u2019re surrounding yourself with people who aren\u2019t going to push you, those are probably not the right people,\u201d Witty says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"h2\">Train for an event \u2014 and make it fun<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year the best friends participated in two Spartan Races together, which was outside Witty\u2019s comfort zone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve never been much of a runner, so for me to sign up was a big deal,\u201d he says. \u201cWe started running more so that hopefully we\u2019d finish the race together.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An event with a firm end goal (finishing a race, beating your previous race time or raising money for a good cause) is a good motivator. Ask your friends who wants to train for it or lose the most weight by the event date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/res.cloudinary.com\/ggus-dev\/image\/private\/s--TRG99FUx--\/c_auto,g_auto,w_2016,h_1512\/v1\/2405e908\/taylor-and-tory-breckenridge.webp?_a=BAAAV6Bs\" alt=\"breckenridge \" class=\"wp-image-9874\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMake sure it\u2019s fun, too,\u201d Hale says. \u201cIf it gets too serious, it\u2019s hard to keep it up. It\u2019s fun to be competitive and challenge each other to do new things.\u201d<br>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"h2\">Plan an active vacation and meet the locals<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So far this year, Hale and Witty have taken a couple of weekend trips to Breckenridge, Colorado, for snowboarding \u2014 another new experience for Witty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI liked it enough to buy my own board,\u201d he says. \u201cWe\u2019ve even talked about getting season passes for next year.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Next up on the travel itinerary: Iceland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re going to be hiking every day and we\u2019ll enjoy it because we trained,\u201d Hale says. \u201cWe\u2019ll get to see so much more because of it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s also an opportunity to meet new people who could potentially give their best friends workout a global reach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll find a gym while we\u2019re there,\u201d Hale says. \u201cWe\u2019ll meet locals and get their recommendations and probably be welcomed into their fitness community because of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThat extends this beyond our friendship to a fitness family across the world.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&lt;p&gt;They live 1,000 miles apart, but that doesn\u2019t stop Tory Hale in Dallas and Taylor Witty in Greensboro, North Carolina, from keeping each other on track to reach their fitness goals.
