Not only are group exercise classes fun, but they can help <a href=\"https:\/\/www.active.com\/fitness\/articles\/6-benefits-of-group-fitness-classes-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">set the foundation<\/a> for your fitness journey. Here\u2019s everything you want to know about&nbsp;Gold\u2019s Gym group exercise classes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s really awesome to see existing members help the new people out,\u201d says Erin Gregory, fitness programs national development manager for Gold\u2019s Gym.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These tips apply to all <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goldsgym.com\/golds-gym-fitness-experience\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gold\u2019s Gym group exercise classes<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>You don\u2019t have to be an expert.<\/strong> In fact, if you\u2019re new to working out and aren\u2019t sure about starting with an hour-long class, feel free to come for only part of the time. \u201cStarting in small doses can help you build up to sticking with it in the long run,\u201d Gregory says.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Wear what makes you comfortable.<\/strong> T-shirts, tanks, shorts, leggings and whatever athletic shoes you like \u2014 it doesn\u2019t matter; it won\u2019t hurt your workout. (Keep in mind you might get hot more quickly in baggy clothes, and some yoga poses could make certain clothes more revealing than intended.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Bring a water bottle.<\/strong> You\u2019ll definitely want it. You can also bring a towel from home, but most Gold\u2019s Gym locations provide them for your convenience.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"h2\">The inside scoop<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s a breakdown of some of the most popular Gold\u2019s Gym group exercise classes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"h3\">BODYPUMP<sup>\u00ae<\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The original weights class that builds strength, tones your body and pushes your limits every time<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright wp-caption\" id=\"attachment_10697\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/res.cloudinary.com\/ggus-dev\/image\/private\/s--S0lvKyUq--\/c_auto,g_auto,w_640,h_574\/v1\/2405e908\/bodypump.webp?_a=BAAAV6Bs\" alt=\"Caitlin and Michael After BODYPUMP\" class=\"wp-image-10697\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Caitlin and her husband Michael after a BODYPUMP class<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is a class anybody can take,\u201d Gregory says. \u201cWe recommend it to people new to exercise. It\u2019s a full-body workout that exercises every muscle group.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Arrive five to 10 minutes early to set up the equipment. You\u2019ll use a barbell with weights, a step and a mat during this hourlong class. The step is used as a tool to keep you off the floor during moves such as chest presses and tricep dips.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t expect to become comfortable with barbells as quickly as I did,\u201d says Caitlin, a member at Gold\u2019s Gym Uptown. \u201cI had never used them before and was comfortable by the end of the first class.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can choose the amount of weight you use. Start with the lightest, as you may do more than 1,000 reps altogether in each class. The first half of the class is the smart start section for beginners \u2014 the instructor will announce when you have completed it and that you have worked the major muscle groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"h3\">Zumba<sup>\u00ae<\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignleft wp-caption\" id=\"attachment_10663\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/res.cloudinary.com\/ggus-dev\/image\/private\/s--CuosL-9b--\/c_auto,g_auto,w_1586,h_1586\/v1\/2405e908\/unknown.webp?_a=BAAAV6Bs\" alt=\"GOLD'S FIT\u00ae\" class=\"wp-image-10663\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Von Stanley Gossi with student Jennifer Wheeler<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><i>The original dance-fitness party, featuring exotic rhythms set to high-energy Latin and international beats<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This hour-long cardio workout is fun and easy to follow, Gregory says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWho doesn\u2019t want to do a salsa step, even if you\u2019ve never done it in your life?\u201d she asks. \u201cYou\u2019ll feel like you\u2019re on \u2018Dancing With the Stars.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jennifer has been a Zumba student for seven years. Her favorite class is with instructor Von Stanley Gossi at Gold\u2019s Gym Wendover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOver the years, he has been able to challenge not only his students but himself,\u201d she says. \u201cHe is always helping us reach our fitness goals, perfect our moves, foster a welcoming and supportive community, live in the moment and keep me coming back for more!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"h3\">Gentle Yoga<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><i>One of Gold\u2019s Gym group exercise classes that features easy poses done at a slow pace, perfect for those new to yoga or looking for a low-intensity practice<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gregory says yoga is as intense as you make it. Gentle and Hatha Yoga (another slow-paced, low-intensity class) focus on breathing and relaxation for an hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYoga has wonderful mobility, flexibility and mental meditation benefits,\u201d she says. \u201cBut you\u2019ll still work up a sweat.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mats are provided for the class, but you are welcome to bring your own. Other equipment, such as yoga straps and yoga blocks, may also be used to help with flexibility and stability during various poses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Vinyasa Flow Yoga<\/b> is a step up in intensity, with continual movement keeping your heart rate up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019ll go from Downward-Facing Dog, straight to Upward-Facing Dog, straight to Plank, straight to a hip flexor stretch with a rotation,\u201d Gregory says. \u201cPower Yoga is a step up from that \u2014 an advanced level class with jumps between poses instead of steps.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"h3\">LES MILLS GRIT<sup>\u00ae<\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><i>High-intensity interval training with short rounds of exercise followed by periods of strategic recovery<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These 30-minuteGold\u2019s Gym group exercise classes each focus on cardio, plyometrics or strength workouts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No equipment is required for the GRIT<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>CARDIO class; it\u2019s all about burning calories with fast moves such as mountain climbers and burpees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The GRIT<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>PLYO class uses steps and weight plates for jump training moves on and off, over and around the step.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s really good for injury prevention,\u201d Gregory says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Barbells are used in the GRIT<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>STRENGTH class, and you can increase the intensity by using heavier weights for moves such as jump lunges and clean presses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a great workout that\u2019ll give you results when you\u2019re short on time,\u201d she says. \u201cAs with any equipment-based class, arrive early.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"h3\">BODYCOMBAT<sup>\u00ae<\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><i>One of Gold\u2019s Gym group exercise classes that features a mix of martial arts and endurance<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gregory says this is one of Gold\u2019s Gym\u2019s most popular cardio classes. It involves a lot of punching and kicking moves, and no equipment is required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is a complete body workout,\u201d she says. \u201cIt will help you with full-body weight training.\u201d<br>\nMoves such as pushups, squats and lunges target upper and lower body muscles in this hour-long class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis class helps me with my endurance, energy and strength,\u201d says Carlos, a member at Gold\u2019s Gym Fiesta Trails. \u201cWhat surprised me is the amount of men that attend.
